Matheran
The structure, centrally positioned within the site, is rectangular in plan (approx. 23.3 m × 12.4 m) and comprises three compartments—two of equal size and a larger central hall serving as the principal entrance. Ancillary facilities, including the toilet block and service areas, are located at the south-western edge.
Constructed as a load-bearing system with 0.5 m thick stone masonry walls finished in lime plaster, the building is surmounted by a sloping G.I. sheet roof supported on timber king-post trusses. The façades feature timber-framed glass openings on all sides. The interior is characterized by red mud tile flooring, exposed electrical conduits, and unpainted timber members.
The structure exhibits deterioration in the form of rising damp, flaking plaster, structural cracks, and decay of timber elements.
Restoration includes structural repair of the trussed roof and masonry walls, replacement of deteriorated elements, anti-termite treatment, and renewal of plaster and stone finishes. Timber doors, windows, and glass panels will be refurbished, while interiors will receive new flooring, concealed wiring, and improved lighting.
